The project involved converting a traditional farm barn into a modern house using a one-storey CLT structure added on top of the restored stone barn.

The timber upper floor is a long open span with a small number of supporting walls designed not to interrupt the flow. This was achieved using an innovative system of external ‘over-truss’ roof supports developed by G-frame with the help of Furness Partnership as part of the design, supply and installation of the CLT superstructure.

The building took just over a year to complete with works starting on site in May 2016 and finishing July 2017.

In May 2018 the project was awarded RSUA House of the Year 2018, as well as Small Project of the Year and an RSUA Design award/RIBA Northern Ireland regional award. It was also shortlisted for the Structural Timber Awards 2018.
